Coach Newsome is a graduate of Shawnee Mission West High School where he was a three year varsity starter and letter winner in basketball and track earning all state honors his junior and senior years. Gary turned down opportunities to play college basketball, football and track to pursue his ministerial calling and to tend to his newly acquired family. He has attended Johnson County Community College and DeVry Institute but is currently pursuing a Bachelor degree in Sports Ministry at Faith Bible College. After previously dropping basketball from his life, in October of 1996 Coach Newsome began to have an itch to get back to the game he loves. He began to coach various AAU and competitive basketball teams within the KC Metro. In August of 2006, Coach Newsome was hired as the Varsity Girl’s Head Coach at Olathe Christian School while also serving as Assistant Athletic Director. Under Coach Newsome’s leadership, the Olathe Christian Lady Warriors amassed an overall three year record of 91-14 (.867) while collecting two NACA National Championships (’08, ’07), one MAAC Midwest Regional Championship (’07) and three KCAA Kansas State Championships (’09, ’08, ’07). At Olathe Christian Coach Newsome developed and produced two NACA All-Americans (Leah Cotton-University of Minnesota and Amy Green-Washburn University) while graduating and placing every one of his players in various colleges.
